How Solar Panels are fixed?

Oct 4

How do solar panels attach to the roof? How solar panels are fixed? The work is minimally disruptive as most of it is done outside the building, in the garage or loft (where the inverter usually is located). One 4mm cable is required to enter the living space of the house to connect to the consumer unit and generation meter.

Solar Fixation Steps

This guide will help you understand the process step by step. It will be obvious that the roof is sound and secure. It is now stronger than ever before.

  1. How do solar panels are fixed? After carefully measuring and marking the tiles, mounting brackets are attached to the rafters. After grinding the undersides of the tiles to achieve a flush fit, the tiles can be put back. Any tiles that are damaged or missing are replaced with new ones.

  1. To support panels, rails are bolted onto brackets. To allow for contraction, they must be slightly longer than the panels.

  1. Especially designed clips attach panels to rails. These bolt onto the edges. These clips allow panels to be easily removed for roof maintenance. Each panel has an electrical cable that is connected to its neighboring panel to create a "string".

  1. The cable is inserted under a tile, and then into the roof void.

  1. The roof installation is complete. You will need to leave a minimum of 200mm between the edges of the panels, and the roof's edge.

  1. Two DC isolators are connected to the inverter using the cables from the strings. The AC output of the inverter then goes into an AC isolation (the red switch), where it is taken to the generator meter and consumer unit. The inverter is not accessible after installation. However, data can be transmitted to a computer and a dedicated display device.

There are many options for how to align and arrange panels to capture the sunlight. But which one is the best? Which one is right for your solar system? Today, we will be discussing two types of solar systems used by on-grid installation companies.

Fixed Arrays

An array of fixed panels is the most straightforward type of solar system. First, anchor the support structure to the ground. The solar panels are then attached to the structure. These systems are easy to construct with little material and can be made in any size. They are strong and require little maintenance because they don't have moving parts.

There are some drawbacks too. Solar panels perform best when the sun's radiation is perpendicular. The angle between your panels and the sun changes as it moves across the sky throughout the day. Your fixed system will not be aligned optimally. It will also produce less energy.

Solar Trackers

How can you stop the sun from moving? Move solar panels! Solar trackers are solar panels that attach to a motor, or any other means of movement. These arrays can follow the sun to increase their energy production. There are two types of solar trackers: one axis moves in one direction following the sun all day, or they have a dual axis that tracks the sun continuously and adjusts to the year.

Because of this complexity, solar trackers can cost more to design, build, and maintain than fixed panels. These additional costs make trackers more economical when panels are costly. In order to get the most out of the available light, it is important to keep the panels as small as possible.
